Wow, it is almost here, the end of another school year. This is an exciting time for everyone as we wrap up our 7th year of SSA. It has been a great year! We moved to a brand new campus, we’ve won many awards in all areas and again have been labeled an excelling school by the Arizona Department of Education. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of each and every student, parent and teacher here at SSA.
Seven years ago, we started off with only 89 students in 6-8th grades. Our Tucson location currently has over 600 students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. We also have a location in Phoenix with over 250 students. This next year SSA Broadway will open a replication of our Tucson site. As you can see SSA continues to grow, exceed AZ state standards, and provide excellent public education.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered and mentored programs. Thank you to our parents for choosing SSA as your child’s school. Thank you to our teachers who have put in a tremendous amount of work, and thank you also to our students for their hard work this past year.
It is time for our annual “Teacher of the Year” nominations. Each year SSA administrators choose an outstanding teacher as "Teacher of the Year". As you can imagine, this is a very difficult decision, as all of the teachers at SSA are dedicated professionals. A part of the criteria for choosing Teacher of the Year is feedback from parents. Please fill out the nomination slip and return to the Teacher of the Year box in the front office. This feedback will help our administration choose the 2008 recipient. The "Teacher of the Year" will be announced at the Awards ceremony on May 14th, and that teacher will receive a $1000 award. Runner-up teachers will be split an additional $1100.
In this past month the elementary school finally moved over to this campus. We are excited to have everyone here now at the same location.
On April 18th, our Drama Students performed “Footloose”, which was a tremendous hit. All of our SSA students have such wonderful talent.
Standardized testing also took place in April. 99% of our students took the tests and everyone did a great job of being on time.
High school students continue to fundraise for the Prom on May 9th, which will be the first Prom at SSA, and I know we are all looking forward to it.
May 21, 22, and 23 are final exam days. The final exam schedule is included in this newsletter. Students should take these exams seriously, as these exams generally account for 20% of a student’s final grade (see Student Handbook for details). If you have questions regarding your child’s grades, please speak to the classroom teacher or to Mr. Karatas.
As the 2007/08 school year comes to a close, on behalf of all the staff at SSA, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of the parents who have so generously donated funds, food & beverages, school supplies, equipment, items of every conceivable kind and, especially, your valuable time and energy to all of the happenings, fundraisers, and programs this year. We could not have done it without you! Have a great summer!! We look forward to seeing all of you in August!
