We are pleased to announce the upcoming contest and wish to encourage Tucson area elementary students’ participation. 5th grade students are cordially invited to attend our 3rd  annual  MathMatters contest.

The primary goals of this program are to stimulate interest and achievement in mathematics among 5th grade students throughout Tucson, and to provide recognition of outstanding young mathematicians, their dedicated teachers, and schools. More than 200 students registered for the test in 2007.

The contest will be held February 9, 2008 at 10:00 am at the campus of Sonoran Science Academy. There is no fee charged for participation to your students or to your school.  Registration is required since space is limited. Online registration is available at http://mathmatters.accordeducation.org. Registration due date is February 1, 2008. After this date we will mail to the participant’s mailing address a package of confirmation letter, schedule of the contest day, map of the contest center, and a sample test. Late registration due date is February 6, 2008.

The MathMatters exam itself will consist of a 30 minute test.  But that’s not all!  The day will also include Math games and an award ceremony.  All participants will be recognized and presented with a certificate, and outstanding students will receive awards for their performance.
