A: Yes, as early as 7th grade, SSA starts talking to the students regarding colleges and scholarships. Starting in 9th grades students are required to enroll in college preparation elective class where they start realizing monthly college-bound goals.

A: Sonoran Science Academy is tuition free in grades K-12th.
Q:
A: SSA offers an individualized math and reading program in grades K-5. This allows for students to work at an advanced pace and to be challenged on a daily basis. In grades 6-12, SSA offers an individualized math program with minimum levels at each grade level. Independent study in all courses is also available and worked out between the student, parents and classroom teachers with academic contracts. They are all at the College Preparatory level with many students opting for Honors or AP courses

A: Yes, students are able to order lunch by selecting the days on the order form. All lunches are ordered around the 20th of the preceding month. Currently, a caterer brings lunch each day; lunch is $2.95 per day. We participate in the National School Lunch Program.

A: Most of the teachers at SSA have Arizona teaching certificate and all the teachers are considered highly qualified as defined by No Child Left Behind Act.

A: Each Kindergarten- 5th grade student has PE, Art and Music one time each week. 6th graders have Art, 7th graders have music and 8th graders have Drama 2 times a week. Drama, Band and Art are also offered as after school extra-curricular activities.

A: No it is the parent’s responsibility to get their child to school and pick them up.

A: Yes, SSA is accredited by the American Association of Liberal Education (AALE) and North Central Association (NCA).

A: Kindergarten through 5th grades are in session from 8:30 am-3:00 PM and 6th-12 grades are in session from 8:15 AM – 3:15 PM . On half days Elementary releases at 11:55 and MS/HS at 12:16.

A: SSA opened in September 2001. We started out with 86 students and have since grown to over 790.

A: SSA offers free tutoring after school in all subject areas check from 3:15-4:00 for elementary students and from 3:15-4:15 for middle and high school students. In some cases tutoring can also be arranged on Saturdays. Check with your child’s teacher to find out the exact days of the week for their tutoring.

A: College counseling at SSA is taken very seriously. SSA offers both Career and College planning electives which students are required to enroll. Each student is expected follow their 4-year college-plan; which includes researching majors and how to select college major. Each student has individual college and career planning website (Supported by Naviance Inc.). It allows students to explore, compare and make informed decision about different careers.

A: SSA gives individualized attention to each student in college application, financial aid and applying for scholarships. Each student has an individual online college planning site. It has all the features that one needs to strategically plan one’s future. All tasks and assignments are completed online and continuously monitored by school the counselor. Further, SSA offers summer enrichment programs (e.g. SAT camps, College visits, etc). Sonoran Science Academy is committed to providing comprehensive College-bound programs to help students achieve their dreams.

A: Yes, to schedule a tour and to talk about the curriculum call the office to set up a time to stop by. Elementary contact 665-3430 MS/HS 665-3400.

A: Fill out the enrollment application. Along with the application, submit a copy of the birth certificate, immunization records, and any recent standardized tests. If it is mid-year, a copy of the withdrawal form is necessary. All incoming students must be tested.Grades 2-5 are tested with an appointment in the computer lab.
Kindergarteners and first graders are tested one-on-one with an appointment. For the MS/HS, appointments are made to take the written mathematics exam. A book deposit of $120 is required at the time of enrollment.

A: All of our teachers have email addresses located on our website under faculty. You can also call the school front office and they will transfer you if in case of emergency. All teachers have voice mail also so you can leave a message anytime.
Q:
A: Each classroom teacher has a classroom management plan that is posted in the classroom and sent home with the syllabus at the beginning of the year. In addition, DPS points can be given, if a student reaches a defined number of points, in school suspension or out of school suspension can result.
