2008 AIMS results: Elementary School (Grades 3-5)
We are very pleased to see that our SSA elementary students did great in AIMS tests this year. What is particularly noteworthy is that the lowest percentage of success is 91%. This means that all subjects across grades 3 through 5 did 91% or higher (there is no subject below 91%). This is fantastic! Way to go SSA elementary!
I would like to take an opportunity and congratulate our dedicated teachers. The percentage, as illustrated in graphs below, is the total number students who either met or exceeded in AIMS. You may compare our schools’ results to that of all students in Arizona. We do have one 100%; Congratulations 3rd grade math stars! They pulled full 100%. The lowest percentage in math (all grades) is 96%. Furthermore, more than 95% of students who are in advanced classes received “EXCEEDING” scores going beyond just meeting the standards.

Across all elementary grades (3-5) and subjects (math, reading, writing), we greatly outscored Arizona. Of course we should not stop here but continue our legacy in pursuit of “academic excellence” and “continues improvement”. There is always room for improvement. Therefore, it is very important to learn from our mistakes and do our very best in the future. Again, congratulations to all students who made us (and parents) proud!
Congratulations to the Odyssey of the Mind Club Students,
and to their teachers, Ms. LaRussa and Ms. Zismann
Primary students competed in a creative problem solving competition on March 8 at Ironwood Ridge High
School. We had two teams participating in the Odyssey of the Mind program. OM is a great program that teaches students team work, creativity, and problem solving.
Our primary teams solved the long term problem "Rude Awakenings" as a well as a spontaneous problem that they were not allowed to prepare for. As primary students the teams were judged on a scale of "good", "great" and "wow". Our students received many "greats" and "wows".
Upper Elementary students they will be able to compete for a place and to go to the state and world competitions. We are so proud of our teams!
Sonoran Science Academy at SARSEF
(Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair)
Every year Sonoran Science Academy students in grades 3 through 12th prepare a Science Project as part of their Science Curriculum, and selected projects are sent to the SARSEF. This year SSA students participated at SARSEF again, and received first, second and third place in several sections.
Congratulations to all students participated!
