The main focus of SSA is on science and technology. Our department ensures that students learn all the basics of computer technology so that they can excel their skills even further as they move along the grades. We offer rigorous, honors, AP and even Pima college DUAL enrollment computer science courses.
Elementary School
Computer technology courses are started from elementary schools. SSA encourages and strives to incorporate technology in daily instructions. Computer science is also offered as an elective class for upper elementary students.
All students will be required to take Computer Science each year for Middle School. Technology is considered a crucial component of today’s society and workplace, particularly in math and science. Students will learn how to apply their computer skills to organize their files, make classroom presentations, do research on the internet, find software for particular needs, and communicate with others. With the completion of SSA Middle School Computer Science, students will qualify to receive Microsoft Office Certification for the applications listed below:
Computer basics: Hardware, software, CPU, hard drive, monitor, RAM/ROM, printer, scanner, keyboard, mouse, OS, application programs, installing/removing software, internet terminology, input/output devices, typing and keyboarding.
Windows 2000 Operating System: Installation, basic windows applications, computer management, PC settings, and troubleshooting.
Introduction to Office XP: Creating a new office document, opening a document, menus, toolbars, smart tags, undoing a change, selecting and replacing text, selecting and formatting objects, setting up a page, saving and reopening work.
Microsoft Word: Creating a word document, entering and editing text, formatting text, formatting pages, creating tables, special word techniques, Word and the Web.
Microsoft Excel: Entering data/formulas, structuring the sheet, formatting the sheet, Excel charts, Excel database techniques, Excel techniques, Excel and the Web.
Microsoft PowerPoint: Intro Power Point XP, building presentation, outlining presentation, creating text slides and chart slides, formatting charts, customizing presentation, drawing on slides, creating slide shows, PowerPoint and the Web.
Microsoft Access: Intro Access XP, creating a database, creating a table, creating a form, working with records, using queries, creating report, Access and the Web.
Microsoft Outlook: Intro Outlook XP, reading messages, sending messages, managing your mailbox, keeping a contact list, scheduling tasks and meetings.
Web Design : Web Page Design Fundamentals, creating web pages, and using HTML.
Computer Science I and Computer Science II are offered as elective courses in high school. Computer Science I covers Windows 2000 operating system, keyboarding, software and hardware management, Microsoft Office applications, and Web Design with HTML using editors. Students will learn advanced techniques in storing their files, making classroom presentations, doing research on the internet, finding software for particular needs, communicating with others and designing web pages.
Computer Science II will familiarize students with the fundamentals of Java programming, program design and problem-solving. The course will be oriented towards practical skills including current Java programming technologies for Java applets, graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and Web pages. The students will be able to design and implement both graphical applets and stand-alone applications and use visual components in graphical user interface design.
