We offer PE as an elective/special course for our elementary school students. PE includes a variety of sports activities designed to be fun and stimulant for a healthy growth.
During 6th and 7th grades this course will focus on developing life-long skills that are necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle. This physical education class will meet and exceed the objectives outlined in the Arizona State Standards. Health and fitness and nutrition journals will be kept by students to meet specific goals. Rules, strategies, and basic skills for several sports will be covered. The curriculum will include the following: cooperative activities, fitness, softball, flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and field hockey.
In this elective course students will be challenged to set personal fitness, health, and nutrition goals and to create and implement personal fitness programs that encourage lifelong fitness. Students will learn to measure the success of their programs using the Fitness gram program. Cooperation and effective social interaction through physical activity will be examined. Students will complete programs in cardio-respiratory fitness, strength and endurance, and flexibility.
As of 2007, SSA is a full member of AIA (Arizona Inter-scholastic Association). We are playing with top HS teams in basketball, soccer and volleyball statewide.
