"TOP CHARTER SCHOOL OF AZ" IN 2008-2009!!!

We can't express how happy we are to learn that SSA has been selected as the "School of the Year" in Arizona for 2009. Yes, that's right: SSA has earned the honor of being the "Charter School of the Year" by Arizona Charter School Association. Among 500 charter schools, SSA has proven itself academically, and most importantly, by its passionate dedication on student achievement. We could not have done it without your support! The kudos and credits of this honor go to our dedicated teaching faculty, staff, parents, students and school leadership. As SSA family, we are committed to continuously improve our educational programs and curricular instruction by seeking new ways to achieve higher levels of learning for our students. Together, we can accomplish a lot more ahead!!! Thank you for being a part of SSA family....

A new Box Tops For Education collection contest starts today and runs through October 23rd. I have provided collection bags and handouts in everyone's mailboxes.
Winning classroom gets a pizza party - student in the winning classroom that collects the most will win an extra prize.
PLEASE NOTE - This is not a Campbell's Labels For Education contest. I have, however, provided collection bags for those as well. I want to encourage the students to collect them but I would like to keep the two programs separate because they are very different.
Thanks so much for everyone's support! The 650 Box Tops collected at the end of last year have been confirmed by General Mills. Our summer contest and non-contest tops brought in an additional 260 Tops. For the first month of school we have $91 in our bank. We are well on our way to meeting our $500 goal.
Thanks again, if you have any questions, suggestions or comments please contact me anytime. To learn more about our program and how to sign up as a supporter go to:

"SSA-Ahwatukee started a School Wide Reading Buddies Program
Fifth and sixth grade students are reading buddies with second grade students. Third and fourth grade students partner read with kindergarten and first grade for 30 minutes once a week. In addition to older students reading to younger students, younger students also read to older students in order to promote reading fluency. This program helps to develop oral reading skills, good citizenship, and mutual respect between the grade levels."

Dear Parents/Guardians,
In light of recent events regarding the H1N1 Influenza Flu, we are encouraging parents to speak to their children about proper hygiene and tell them to wash their hands frequently and if they cough to cover their mouths with a tissue. If you don't have a tissue, cover your mouth with the crook of your elbow rather than your hand. But if you do use your hands when coughing or sneezing, wash them as soon as possible afterwards. According to the CDC, H1N1 Influenza Flu symptoms are similar to those of the common human influenza (flu) virus – fever, cough, sore throat, headache, etc. Washing your hands often with soap and water or utilizing hand sanitizers is helpful in preventing the spread of these types of illnesses. We are suggesting to parents that they send their child to school with disinfectant hand wipes that the child can use on their desks in the classroom when they enter and leave the classroom.
If your child shows any flu symptoms, it would be best to have them stay at home until they are feeling better.Click Here for more Information
