We can't express how happy we are to learn that SSA has been selected as the "School of the Year" in Arizona for 2009.  Yes, that's right: SSA has earned the honor of being the "Charter School of the Year" by Arizona Charter School Association. Among 500 charter schools, SSA has proven itself academically, and most importantly, by its passionate dedication on student achievement. We could not have done it without your support! The kudos and credits of this honor go to our dedicated teaching faculty, staff, parents, students and school leadership. As SSA family, we are committed to continuously improve our educational programs and curricular instruction by seeking new ways to achieve higher levels of learning for our students. "Bar codes for Fry's Cool Cash" is a sheet of bar codes assigned to our school to participate in the Fry's Cool Cash for schools. You only need one bar code square to sign up with, so you can use the extras to pass out to family, friends or neighbors. Just bring in the bar code and your Fry's card to the customer service desk at any Fry's Market and the clerk will scan the bar code and link it to your Fry's card. If you do not have a Fry's card, you can sign up for one at the same time. There is no cost to you for this service. Every time you make a purchase at Fry's and use your card, you are accumulating points for Sonoran Science Academy-Ahwatukee. Thank you for your participation in this fundraiser.

"SSA-Ahwatukee started a School Wide Reading Buddies Program
 Fifth and sixth grade students are reading buddies with second grade students. Third and fourth grade students partner read with kindergarten and first grade for 30 minutes once a week. In addition to older students reading to younger students, younger students also read to older students in order to promote reading fluency. This program helps to develop oral reading skills, good citizenship, and mutual respect between the grade levels."

The Daisy Education Corporation School Board has approved the new policy for starting 2009 - 2010 education year.The decision to go to a uniform policy was not an easy one, but the data on uniform policies in school is irrefutable....
